I have the dnx697s stereo in a 25 year old Pathfinder.
Vehicle is in very good shape and just
upgraded from an early Kenwood dinosaur.

Does anyone have the same problem of not seeing the screen in sunlight?
My first thought is a polarized screen shield.
Concern do I interfere with touchscreen performance?

Have you identified the source of the light. If it's coming from a specific area, have you considered a window tint? Just a suggestion.

Also look into sunshades for car stereos. Try eBay or Amazon.
