Kenwood DNX 6960 Ipod Control

Hello.

I have a Kenwood DNX6960 in my 2005 Accord Coupe. It is a pretty good unit, but I have some issues with the ipod control. When i plug in my ipod, it disables control from the device itself and pushes control to the head unit. This would be okay if the head unit didnt have a massive delay between switching songs and folders, so my question is, even though this unit does not have the "hands mode" feature, is there a way to enable hand/ipod control while still plugged into the cable? I am using a 6th gen Ipod classic 120gb. Thank yoU!
