Really leaning towards the Kenwood. Has more features and 5V preouts. What would you pick?

You know a funny thing is, I have nothing but good things to say about Alpine since I run some of their gear in my system, but, I have a Excelon head unit. I love it! Go with the X-790. You will love it. The sound quality is excelent! OBTW, I see you have a type R sub. The X-790 will do it justice.

x 2 on the x790. I own one and am pretty pleased with it. Plenty of tuning options to make everything sound smooth. I also have a Type R like you and the x790 allows you to fine tune it better than the 9856 IMO.
