I know covering larger holes in door panels with asphalt based sound deadeners is a no-go because of the heat it tends to sag. This nice rigid Murdermat; is it strong enough to cover a large hole without going through the hassle of cutting some wood or plexi to cover?

Yes it should be .. I used mine like that on the trunk lid. .. Still holding up great
