I thought the RE8 would do pretty good ya know with all the chatter around the forums and stuff, but found out that the SPL was actually not bad for an 8" but the sq (i know its oppinionated) was terrible, in fact second to last 52/80. The frequency rolloff (i think thast wat its called) was not steady like the others but dropped like a father when it hit the 70's 80's. Anyone with these subs can you vouch for the good/bad sq??

i just did an install in a silverado w/ 2 re8's. sealed box around .9ft^3.

i liked neither the spl or sq...not to say that is wasn't the size of box, cause

i also did an install w/ 2 re10's. ported @30Hz, that was 2ft^3 per chamber...

witch is 1 ft over re's specs...and the pound, and sound pretty d@mn good

doing it. oh and the 8's had 250w a piece and the 10's are getting around 150w

a piece.

Did an install in my brothers car. Single RE8 running in a .65cuft ported way too high, powerd by around 120 watts or so. Pretty **** impressed. 3 or 4 of them are definitely going in my next install.

Even tuned as high as it is, they sound relly nice and hit pretty **** hard. I am in the process of builing another box for them tuned around 30-32 hz. I will tell you guys how it sounds then, I am also going to be metering it in each install in about a week or so. That is gonna be fun!!!

For the price, I find them almost impossible to beat.

the RE 8 is a true subwoofer....

inductance is very likely the reason she has a big rolloff in the upper midbass...

1.5" 8 layer copper coil.... extremely big and heavy for an 8" driver..

couple that with a rather low DCR (1.8 ohm) you've got yourself a rather effective 3rd order xover... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

its not that it's a horrible sounding woofer.. there's just more out there that sound better.. although at the price.. its hard to touch..

i gotta agree with jmac... the fact that the drivers were all tested in the same size box is a real bummer considering how much time and energy went into the study. Lots of cool information, but knowing that the ed-8a was in a really large box (compared to optimal) and the ew7 was in a really small box (from optimal) makes it hard to actually judge.

One thing worth noting, the crytals driver had a really flat curver compared to the others and beat them out by a fair margin. Testament to the fact that you want flat drivers... let the EQ set the balance, not the speakers... but how would speakers like the e8a or 8w7 have shown if they hadn't been in boxes >50% to big or small.

the test was valid for the purposes it was conducted for...

unlike most magazines, our graphs aren't normalized, for a reference 90db.. and they test every 1/3 octave...

what you see is what you get.....

also worth mentioning that 11 of the 17 drivers that started the test, was tested in at least one design that fit its company reccomendation..

and one of the drivers that performed quite well, and wasn't tested in ANY design that's reccomended....

RE 8

and this has been thoroughly explained on my home forum, which was linked here, weeks ago.. and disappeared with less then 50 views...
