So I broke down and decided to get it over with and buy some new subs for my car, so I bought 2 10w6v2's that my friend was selling for 400 including the box.

I went from a 12" Alpine Type-R on my 500/1 to these two 10w6v2's.

I've noticed that although it is not as deep sounding, it is a helluva lot clearer and responsive.

I'm just curious, if I were to upgrade to a 12w6v2 or a 13w6v2 would I gain that deep bass back without losing much (or any) clarity and responsiveness?

some feedback would be greatly appreciated.

im going to say that your problem could probably be solved by a better box. is the box thw w6's are in built for them specifically. sealed or ported? before i went all in on spending a ton more money on some JL stuff id consider my install.

I believe it was that, if not there is another one on that site just like it, would the enclosure really make THAT much of a difference?

I'm alternating between sealed and ported because I'm trying to figure out what I like the most.

oh god yes. how much would you consider spending on a box? you can contact one of the box builders on this site such as bjfisher, thumpper (sp?), spy, etc and probably get something of great quality shipped for under 200 bucks.

you can put a 5k dollar sub in a box too small or too large and itll sound terrible compared to a 200 dollar sub put in a box built for it.

errr... I was actually planning on finishing my entire build after getting these subs, didn't plan on spending anymore money... now idk what to do, maybe I'll sell these now... Do you think its worth spending the money on a new box?

thinking of selling them and not having subs at all or buying bigger subs? cause buying new ones, especially if ur talking JL, will cost way more than a new box.

yes getting a quality box, built for the subs will be a world of difference. get a box from one of the builders on here and youll save some money and get a great box. if you go to a shop ur talking at least 200-350 for a nice box thats not prefab and made of particle board and staples

See here is the problem, I'm not even sure yet if I want to keep two 10's or go with 1 12" or 1 13" I figured I might as well see how two 10's sound, and if anything I will sell them... I'm not even sure if I will bother with a new box when I can put this on craigslist and sell them for as much as I paid for them, and find a 12 or a 13 on here to buy... hmm.

2 10's are more cone area than a single 12.

My advice: Get 2 IDMAX's, 10 or 12's and you'll be happy. They sound just as good as JL's but can hit the super lows with a lot more authority. I had mine in a sealed box.

what car are you putting these into? 1 12, or 13 might be a good idea if saving space/weight is an issue. my single 12 off 1100rms is just as loud as my 3 10's i had off the same power. it ended up being a plus for me cause weight and space in my lowered civic was also a factor.

unless some day i get a suv or something ill stick with single sub setups from now on.

I'm putting them in a 98 camry, space is really not an issue, I don't really put things in my trunk anyway... Right now I have the 10's ported and they sound pretty **** good, I'm hoping they grow on me so I can finally finish upgrading my **** car haha...

I went from a 12" Type R to these, so Its probably just going to take some getting used to for me since the R is a SPL sub and the w6 is a sq sub...

Ported box will yeild more output an if designed properly it can sound jus as good as a sealed box. Look in the enclosure or build log section for people who will design an make boxes. Id make a new box before id go through the hassle of selling an buying

Looks like I'll have to try a new box, if not then I'll just stick with what I have because I still think it sounds incredible.
Since the box you have now is prefab ported, I'd wager quite a bit of money that its tuned very high (over 40hz)

Throw them in a box built to those woofers tuned to 32hz or lower and I believe you'll LOVE those subs.
