JL12W3 backing

I just received the 2 jl 12w3-d2's I ordered and one has a rubber ring around the magnet and is silver on the back with jl decals and the other is just black on the back and has no decals. Does anyone know if they changed the design? One was manufactured in April and one in May both 2001.
