JL MHD900/5 tunning

So i have 4 speakers on the back, and 1 10" sub. The amp gives out 100W on channels 1,2,3 and 4, And 250W on channel 5...

Alot of you guys recommend, just playing music and tune it as you go... But the multimeter method seems better, more accurate in my opinion... (True??)

So basically i gather some info from multiple places online, and these are the steps i came up with:

1- Disconnect all speakers/subs

2- Disable all filters (HP & LP)

3- Set all channels freq to 80Hz

4- Play a 50 Hz (correct??), sine wave at volume 75% from your head unit (if max is 100 then set it to 75).

5- Set that track on repeat :p

6- With a multimeter connect + to channel1 + and - to channel1 -. And increase/lower the sensitivity until i get 20V in my case.

7- Repeat step 6 for channel 2,3 and 4

8- Repeat step 6 for channel 5, but go up to 44.7V

9- Put Channels 1,2,3 and 4 on a LP filter. And channel 5 on a HP filter

10- Leave all freq at 80Hz

11- Connect all speakers, subs back.

12- Lower HU unit volume, and put in music i like, and go as high as 75%, and check for any sound distortion...

12a - If you really want to make sure it is correct, do step 12 only with one speaker connected at the time...

Any step i should change? or anything else i need to do???

After you set everything via the DMM method, connect ALL of the speakers and re-adjust the gains according to your personal preference with how everything should sound. While the DMM gain setting method is a decent starting point, it only gets you to a certain point and generally still requires fine tuning by ear.

The problem with setting gains with a DMM is the fact that music is dynamic in nature versus the test tone being constant. Also, what decibel level of the test tone will you be using? 0 dB, -3 dB, -6 dB, -10 dB, etc. Now are you starting to get the reason I call it a starting point versus a means to an end?
