i was cutting some fiberglass today and when i ended i found i had an itching sense on my arms where hair is,only when i touch or scracth these areas.is this from fiberglass powder?i cut plywood too.

it's not the first time i do it but i was very close to that areas.i was working in the car in the wall fixing the port and my arms were touching the wood and dust.

what should i do?I washed many times.doesn't help.

yup thats Fiberglass. cold shower wash away from the grain so down ur body for the most part then a warm shower same thing or atleast this is what i did when i insulated a house. That sucked

You've never worked with fiberglass before?

Yes, that's from the fiberglass, its notorious for doing this. The glass fibers are like tiny needles (tubes actually) that will pierce your skin and get lodged there. Always wear gloves when working with loose fiberglass.

Washing the skin helps some, but for heavily affected areas there is no real solution besides waiting the day or two for your body/skin to push the contaminates out naturally. In other words, live with the itch for a day or two, then it'll be gone.

I worked with fiberglass 3 days ago. Woke up 2 mornings ago with my eyes almost swollen shut. I was being careful, but I guess I got glass in them. Depending on the type of fiberglass, wearing goggles and a mask can be a good idea too.

Take the hottest shower u can stand,It opens ur pours and releases the fiberglass,Also if u have to back in the car and fool with it again, cover ur exposed body parts with baby powder....this fills/cover ur pours to help stop the fiberglass gettin there in the first place.

Dont sweat it... There is a nasty parasite which makes it's home in older fiberglass fibers for whatever reason... so anyhow, the larvae it produces like to burrow under the skin and mature. They get in because the fiber glass fibers cause micro-abrasions to the skin. Dont bother looking, they are microscopic, but cause hella nasty itch with redness. I've had this myself.

So anyhow, the larvae live in the pores in your skin, mature into adult larvae, and lay eggs in the pores. These eggs hatch into more and more larvae, and spread into other pores. Can be very irritating to the host (you).

Eventually, the adult larvae mature into pupae, which are like small maggot-like things, and erupt from the skin. Thats when you know for sure you have the infestation... when you see the little maggot-like pupae kind of erupting from things that look like zits. Really, thats when people tend to freak out.

But, like I said, I've been through this myself, and totally freaked out. Little wiggly maggots erupting from your skin tend to do that!! Went to my doc, like, FAST, who gave me some cream to rub into my arms, and Viola! Did the trick.

So needless to say, I ALWAYS wear long rubber gloves when working with fiberglass.
