i am wondering if i need an isolator when adding a second battery next to my amplifier. i have heard some people say they take a little away from a system. if i dont need one, how would i go about wiring another one in.. just hood batt + to rear batt + and ground the rear batt?? let me know thanks

You really dont need one they are just a safety precaution so you dont drain your starting battery. Without one you run power from front battery to the second battery and you can just ground it to the chassis

run a power wire prefferably 1/0ga from the batt under hood threw a fuse back to ur trunk batt and add a fuse back there too... then you can either ground the - of the trunk batt in the trunk... or run another 1/0 from the underhood batt - to the trunk batt -..

The point of an isolator and when it is needed is if you want to play your system for extended periods of time without having the engine running (basically draining the system battery and not the engine battery,) if this is not your case then ya don't really need one.

no not really the isolator does what it sounds like, when the car is running both batteries charge, but the system/rear battery is isolated from the rest of the cars electrical system. So basically if the engine is off and you are running your stereo, the rear battery will drain and will go dead eventually but the engine battery will not be drained and you can still start the car ect.

ahh so when the rear battery is dead and you leave it hooked up to your electrical it just hurts the alt huh? lol
when your engine is on, the alt takes all burden. when engine off, the rear battery would ONLY take burden if you had an isolator. the isolator is ONLY to isolate the back battery from the front (starter) battery, so that when your vehicle IS off, only your rear battery is contributing the power to your amplifier.

if your alt was running, then the battery should be charging. if its just dead all together, then the car wont even start. are you talking about the rear or front (starter battery)?
