Am i understanding this properly?-

I know not to compare efficiency ratings but if comparing efficiency ratings for 2 different subs within the same company, it should be a fair comparison.

I had originally thought about running 4 15" Lvl4s.. now i'm lost.

The 15s have an 89.4 efficiency rating.

The 18" Lvl4 XLs have a 94.77 efficiency rating!

That means theoretically.. 2 18" XLs would be more than 2db louder than the 4 15s?!?!

I really dont know what to buy now.

I have 15.5 cubes NET for a comp box and 12.8 cubes NET for music box.

Running 7kw... looking for some pretty high numbers here. It's for comp mostly.

The efficiency is because your comparing a 15" cone to an 18" cone, with the same power the 18" will move more.

you cant really compare two 18s to four 15s.

If your budget is limited, two XLs will soak up that power and get loud but four 15" XLs will be even louder. using 4s would be a bit of a stretch, you would be powering them pretty heavily and i'd highly recommend being on an Oscope.

We wall socketed an OLD lvl 4 today and took almost a minute and a half to pop the coil //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Im a little lost though, sounds like your comparing the Level 4 15 to the Level 4 XL 18. Different subs from my understanding. I know the efficiency is much higher with the XL series however. Alot of people run 2k to them each, but a conversation I had with Rusty a while back, he mention they would be fine off 1500w as well.

So really, 4 Lvl4 15s vs 2 Lvl4 XL 18s is a toss up off of 7kw...

I'm gonna see if i can do some more research on it and see what i end up siding with.

Sensitivity ratings are at 1 watt/meter (if done the standard way) and do not take power compression into account almost at all. Yet you are trying to extrapolate those ratings out to a situation that would be greatly affected by PC. Just to name one flaw in your theory of comparing woofers.

Sorry, its just not this simple.

so for bass race, the 15s should stomp the 18s, but for a burp... it's a toss up.

I know what u are saying.

I guess i'll stick with the 4 15" install unless someone proves me wrong.

I think a lot of you all are misunderstanding the topic.

I was comparing 4 Lvl4s to 2 Lvl4 XLs.

Not all XL vs XL.

Due to weight, i do not want more than 140lb of woofer in my car.

So, the 4 15" Level4s seem the way to go.

i'm afraid to ask at the 502 cuz no one around here runs DC that i've seen.
aww bro, you know we //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cuddle.gif.bd1b29c179c0482f8313dbd790b74c94.gif you! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

And you're right, ive not even seen anyone in the loud Kentucky group to even run DC stuff. Which is kinda odd considering how many loud people are from here.

I remember talking to someone at DC a while ago, they were like "nah man, you'd burn our shit up quick" .... I lol'ed.
