Is it worth the extra loot?

Right now, I own 2 MTX 8000 Thunder Subs. They're 1000 watts and 400 RMS. A buddy of mine's brother has 2 new Alpine Type R's for sale (1000 watts, 500 RMS). I currently have a 1000 watt and 1600 watt amp. Would the type r's be able to handle the 1600? Any help is great, thanks.
