Stillwater, OK - The latest upgrade of KICKER's flagship subwoofer, the Solo-Baric, debuts at the 1998 Winter Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
Recognized as the the first "small box" subwoofer for car audio applications, the Solo-Baric derives its name from its ability to deliver the performance advantages of an isobaric pair of conventional drivers in a single loudspeaker.
The d-series Solo-Baric features a new Hemispherical Cone which pushes KICKER's exclusive Inverted Structural Dome (ISD) technology to the absolute limit for KICKER's most distortion-free cone design yet. KICKER's original ISD replaced the speaker's dustcap with an inverted dome that locked into the cone for superior resistance to distortion-inducing flex under pressure. The new hemispherical cone totally eliminates the dustcap-a one-piece high-mass outer cone attaches to an inner cone near the surround and again midway down the cone. This ultra-rigid design provides maximum resistance to flex, even at extreme excursion.
Carried over from the previous version are cast aluminum basket with integral Perimeter Venting for voice coil cooling, one-piece extended pole, UniPlate combined pole/backplate, and spring-loaded nickel-plate push terminals.
New models include the fifteen-inch S15d, 12-inch S12d, 10-inch S10d, and 8-inch S8d, available in 2, 4, and 8 ohms. In recognition of Stillwater Designs 25th Anniversary, a chrome-plated 12-inch S12dse Silver Edition is also available in 2, 4, and 8 ohms with special 25th Anniversary cone and backplate art.
