Is a Capacitor worth it?

Man alive, yea...didnt see that part, I was wrong (yes, I just said that...something you wont see too much from someone on ca)
And man, for someone who already bitched about someone doing the same thing to him...you sure dont mind putting words in other people's mouths (referring to you saying that I think I know more than that site...which I never said //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif)

But I do have a Q for you...you wouldnt havppen to be McIntosh just using a different sn, would you? You seem a lot like him arguing for the sake of arguing..
No I'm not him. We probably just have the same personality disorder. Also, I didn't mean to put words in your mouth... I just looked at what you said and thought that was all you could possibly mean. It's no big deal, I'm just not going to lay down and let people lie when I know the truth... especially when I can correct them and make sure they don't spread the misinformation anymore. You should argue politics with me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Lol!!!! You know more than a reputable site? I've heard it all now.
The "unless" scenario is actually a sentence or two after the one you bolded. Learn to read and stop enjoying being ignorant so much.
If you ignore things like resistance, time, decay and have a strong and CONSTANT power supply you are partially correct. Real world dealing with 1,000s of watts off limited alt power you would be wrong.

I honestly hate politics with every bit of my body, sorry //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

try lookin at KIRCHHOFF'S LAWS (not the best but can be made relivent)

things here just dont seam right

people seam to be goin over the top with there answers to make them look clever

but by doin that they make small mistakes

some of u must know at least a little bit so chill and proof read before postin

This is how it works:

Think of your alternator as a water pump.

And your battery as a reservoir, and your amp as a faucet.

The electricity will generally flow the past of least resistance.

While your amp is not drawing power, the power generated by your alternator is solely used for charging the battery.

While the amp is drawing power the resistance of the amp is less than the battery, thus the charge goes straight to the amp.

So here is a senario... (mind you these are theoretical numbers and there are thousands more variables in determining actual values.)

You have a 100amp alternator and a 500amp battery.

Your amp at idle draws 10 amps, at spikes draws 200amps.

so at idle, 10 amps are bypassing the battery to feed your amp's draw.

At a 200amp spike, Your alternators power by-passes the battery and sends a full 100amps to the amp, however the amp is still attempting to draw another 100amps, which it gets from the battery.

Now your battery is 100amps low of charge, which causes the BAT. to draw sometimes stronger than the amp, causing the all too familiar phenomenon of the car audio world called "voltage drop."

It is during this point that the charge of your battery is depleted to the point that is draws more current than the amp. thus for brief moments, your amp is not recieving power.

True but ignoring how things work in the real world and ignoring other aspects of how the world works is just as bad.

Excuse the MS paint.

but a car batt will output down to a fraction of a volt

by then ur alt has blown up and ur batt is about to explode

try it,

find the thickest metal bar u can,

start ur car,

put ur DMM across the batt

then place the metal bar carefully across the terminals of ur battery

I'm not an expert when it comes to alts, but I'm pretty sure that they are not fast enough to change their output for a "spike". Sure if it was a constant 200a then the alt would adjust, but I'm pretty sure the voltage regulator in the alt is designed to slowly change the output (if RPM's are kept constant) to keep the alt from getting damaged.

Btw, the only thing eCrack and I were arguing about is what happens in the 13.8v to 12.6v range. He claims its strictly the alt outputting above 12.6v, I claim that the batt can output at above 12.6v in certain conditions for short periods.

Ya, stupid arguement, but entertaining.
