iPod audio format for 880prs

I have a DEHP880PRS to put into my system (replacing Mc MX406 for the time being). This HU is hooked to mostly a/d/s/ equipment and the iPod controller from Pioneer of course.

So, to get the best sound possible (remember this is comparing to the MX406), which is the best audio format for the iPod (30gb video). I have over 600 CD's that I would like to put on my computer and have available for my iPod. disk space is not important as I have 300gb worth of drive space and will probably get a 300gb eSATA drive to store music only.

Right now I am using the Apple lossless but the more I think about it I do not know if this is actually the best sound quality. I am new to MP3 players so please understand my probable dumb question and thanks for the help.

here is my system btw.

a/d/s/ 642ix x-over

a/d/s/ PQ20 front (200X2)

a/d/s/ PQ10 rear (80X2)

Alphasonik PMA800DA for subs

Alphasonik PMA150HCA for rear midbass

a/d/s/ 336ix fronts

a/d/s/ 320is rears (back deck)

a/d/s/ S-10 (x2)

a/d/s/ S-8 rear midbass (rear doors)

1st.. losless is the best.. bit rate is usually around 1100 instead of the usual 128...2nd i too have the 880 w/ the ipod interface (IB100II which works great)

The PQ20 is rated 80X4 or 200W bridged.

The PH15 however is rated 50X6 or 150W bridged.

Oddly, the PQ10 is rated 40X4 or 80W bridged.

most of my a/d/s/ is over 20 years old now. It is cool to see ppl that still know the old school a/d/s/. My entire home theater is a/d/s/. If you have ever seen the MV80T towers from a/d/s/ that is my front stereo section. the d'Apolito array with a/d/s/ tweeters is amazing. always tried to figure a way to get that setup in my car (along with the 3-8" woofers in each tower //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif )

I have decided to go out and get the 80gb iPod since it too is on sale ($332.49 vs $237.49).

It will be a few weeks before I can install the HU and it will interesting to hear the diff between the two HU's. So far however, listening to audio converted to lossless has been a treat, if even through earbuds.

One question I do have is what is the actual frequency response of the iPod through the Pioneer controller?

Thanks for the input so far.

Wheel, here's the deal. I have 500 CD's that I would like to fit on it. I figure at lossless rate I can only get 250CD's but with 320kbs MP3 i could get all 500 plus. I want my mommy. Save going out and buying another 80gb iPod (circuity city for $328.49 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif ), i need to mess around with the SQ of each format but do not have the 880 hooked up yet. Does anyone know how to change bitrate other then what comes with itunes? for Winblows i can install a frauhauffer decoder but know nothing of itunes. Hey I can build a computer and make windows work, i guess i just dont have time for this fancy mp3 stuff //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I figured it out, I will format the CD's i like with lossless, the rest (that usually sound like crap anyway) will get MP3 320kbps. Regardless, the CD's that I really like will get played mostly in the CD player but it will be nice to have access to the rest of ym CD collection //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Honestly in a moblie audio system i doubt you even notice the difference.... a car is a difficult place to obtain SQ.....
