installing double din

I have a 2005 saturn vue, and would like to install a kenwood ddx-7017 double din head unit. The factory double din unit measures: 7"W x 4"H x 7.5"D and the kenwood unit measures: 7.16"W x 4"H x 6.4"D. The kenwood is almost 1" shorter yet crutchfield says it will not fit.............

my question is, why do they say it won't fit? If its just a matter of theirs no mounting kits/hardware i'm not concerned as i can fab some. Has any one ever installed an aftermarket double din in a 2002-2005 saturn?

The width maybe. What kind of stock audio system is it(the standard or the upgraded, etc?)

Metra 99-3106... comes with double din mounting brackets... go ahead... buy the unit... NOW! :-D
