installing component sets

ive searched online and cant find a good "how to" about installing components. i know basicly, but when it comes to the cross overs n shit im lost. like.. would it take a 4 channel amp for one comp set? channel 1 for the mid, 2 for the tweet, 3 for the other mid, and 4 for the last tweeter?

You don't need a 4 channel amp, although some component sets offer you the option of using a 4 channel amp so you can individually control the level of the mids and tweeters.

Using a 2 channel amp, you wire each channel of the amp to one crossover and the crossover then divides the signal to the mids and tweeters (which are wired seperately from the crossover to the drivers). If your comps have a biamp option you would wire 2 channels into each crossover and you can adjust the gains to tweak the level of the mids in comparison to the tweeters. The third option for people who want to control things even more than that would be to use an active crossover instead of the passives like you get with a comp set so you could play with the crossover points as well as the levels.
