Installing a pair of 8" or a pair of 10" I already own

Hi all,

I own a 2001 SWB Mitsubishi Montero Limited.

I am going to connect two sub's to the original stereo and also change to MB Quart speakers/tweeters all around.

First of, I already have sitting here 2x 10" Orion XTR PRO sub's (Dual Coils, 1000W 4ohm), they go a few years back but they are in perfect condition and i'm wondering if I should use them in my truck, and not spend lots of $ for 2 new JL Audio 8W7's.

I also have 2 amp's sitting with no use: PrecisionPower POWERclass 4800.2 amp (it's HUGE, 23inch's long!) and a HiFonics Zeus ZX6000.

If I can use the Hifonics ZX6000 it will be good , but the PresicionPower amp won't fit anywhere in my truck. If not, I would want either a JL/Orion/Hifonics Amp to push the subs.

I have a problem with storage room, when I will have subs in the back, i'll almost have no room.

As a result - I have decided to somehow make the subwoofer connections Plug-N-Play, so when I need that extra space, I can disconnect the subs with ease and leave them home.

So I have a few questions...

-With which one of the pairs to go with? The Orion's or the JL 8W7's? (Don't regard the money issue with the subs).

-Do you have an idea or pictures of the Plug-N-Play setup i'm looking to build?

-I want to build the box alone, but I have never built a Subwoofer box (my father had built), how should I calculate the dimensions to get the right box volume? what type of wood to use? how should I connect the pieces (glue, nails etc..)?

Thanks!

1.) Use the speaker you already own

2.) Use a terminal on the box so you can remove the box when ever you wish.

3.) This will take a while to teach you. For sealed use L x W x H = V then V / 1728 = V2. Make sure to account for the speaker displacment, and the build material displacment. V2 will be the internal volume in cubic feet.

Use 3/4" MDF wood.

Use wood glue on every joining side and screw every 3-4" to secure the wood untill the glue drys. Then go ahead and just leave the screws in the box.
