Installing a CD player in a 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Okay, I just got my new project vehicle/daily driver yesterday and I'm pretty pumped to be putting a system in it (which will be added to my build log). My question is about the clock on the display that's down by the shifter. That clock is controlled by the clock on the radio. When the factory radio is removed, how does this clock function? Does it function at all? Does this vehicle require that I relocate the factory HU? That wouldn't be overly difficult to do, but I'd like to know ahead of time before I start the install so I've got everything I need to finish it all up.

Well, that's one response. I'm talking about the clock that's down by the gear shifter. There a rather large display down there for vehicle information.

That's one big f*ckin' box. I do have a clock on my radio that I'll be putting in there, I'd just like to be able to keep the VIC (what that display is called) fully functional.

Well, I did the install and the clock on the vehicle information center is now set directly from the VIC. It worked the way I hoped it would. Now, getting the Infinity Gold amp to power on with the Alpine was a totally different story. In order to get that working, I had to wire the remote turn on from the Alpine to the power antenna lead on the wiring harness. Apparently, that wire was used to turn on the amp instead of signaling a power antenna to go up or down. Thank you Crutchfield Master Sheet for that one. No one had an answer on any forum, car audio or Jeep related. I wonder what you would do if you have the Infinity Gold system and a factory power antenna...

i am having same problem with my console screen as you were. I bought the Jeep with an aftermarket CD player already installed and have been trying to get the console screen to hold the time and settings and not reset each time i turn the Jeep off. What did you do to resolve the situation? Was the screen not receiving a constant power? Let me know what I can do to troubleshoot this issue. Just want everything working in my new Jeep!

I'd check your fuses. Is your HU keeping the settings every time you shut the Jeep off? There was nothing I had to do in order to get my VIC to keep the information/settings when the Jeep is turned off.
