Installation Questions.

First off i am currently in iraq, so someone else is going to be installing my stuff for me. So if i seem a little vague on what information i have, its probably because thats all i know, or all im able to find out myself..

Anyhow recently i purchased a new alpine head unit. Polk Audio door speakers, and Alpine Type S rear speakers. I bought them from crutch audio, so all screws, mounting brackets or whatever were included for my car. Pontiac Grand Am 2002 SE

The first question i have is.

I already purchased a new cd player before and had it installed for free at best buy, i understand that they put on a new harness to go with the cd player. My question is does this harness that they install pretty much work with whatever cd player i have installed? or is there something else i may have to do for a new cd player

Also, for a car that has only had stock speakers on the inside. What would upgrading to the speakers i just mentioned entail. The website at crutchfield says if the speakers will fit, and both speakers said they fit, but also that the stuff for installation was included.. Im just wondering how difficult installation may be.

The only reason i ask, is because someone else is doing the installation (my step dad) before i come home. So i dont want my car or the installation to be totally ****ed up.. Even though i do trust him

Any help is appreciated!

Thank you

I'm pretty sure (someone is welcome to correct me though, I don't have much experience) that most different brands of head units require a different harness - there is no universal fit. I think they sell adapters between harnesses though, which might help.

Speaker replacement is different on different cars, but on my car I had to run new speaker wire from the amplifier in the trunk to the speakers in the doors, with a set of RCAs going from the head unit to the amp. Replacing the speaker was as easy as popping off the grille and unscrewing the old speaker and screwing the new one in.

Crutchfield is a great place to order from as far as customer service and including all of the parts/accessories (usually for free), just a little pricey.

the harness is vehicle dependant not radio dependant. you get the harness for the 02 grandam it will work with any aftermarket radio.

as for speakers it depends but I know my factory speaker wires in the rear had wierd clips which means I had to cut them to hook up after market. you may even need to run an amplifier depending on the speakers, I didnt notice if you bought comps or coaxials.
