Ok, I'm fixing to redo my system completely, and I'M redoing it this time, NOT the shop that installed mine last time.. so..

Can anyone send me a link to a detailed "how to" for installing everything? HU mainly, and how to run wires down firewalls and through dash and carpet and such..

Also need some help.. I was trying to take my door panel off, and it has push pins..

Well.. I pushed the little middle "pin" part in so that I could get them out, and when I did, some worked, but two of the push pins broke in the process.. and the freakin pin part fell behind it into the metal of the door... any better way to do this?

Also, how the heck do I get into the metal of the door (the area that the speakers are mounted on) and get the little push pin centers out?!?!?!!? I don't want them in there rattling around!! CRAP!!!!!

Thanks car audio gurus!!

Trevor

I too bought a Haynes book for my car. Worth the $20 without a doubt.

Crutchfield supplies detailed instructions for installing when buying that item. I believe they also sell a book about system installation instructions.

If you do a google on car audio installation books I would bet you get a lot of links.

Good luck and keep us informed.

Sorry guys to be plugging another site on here, but go to the12volt.com and look up your car on there database. Every once in a while they're wrong ( most recently I noticed they were wrong on an audio ), but it's still a helpful tool to have.

For installing an HU you shouldn't have to run any wires at all...Unless you just really want to run all new speaker wires. You can even buy a harness at walmart that plugs into your stock harness so you don't have to cut into your stock wires and possibly void your warranty / you can return to stock quickly and easily. Pretty much get your old one out, if it has mounting brackets, remove them. You probably need a dash kit so you don't have a lot of extra room around the new unit, also available at walmart/bb/cc. Attach the mounting brackets to the new head unit. Put the new one in the same way the old one was and enjoy. You'll probably need to look up a wiring diagram for your cars stock wiring, because even if you do run all new speaker wires, there is still some other stuff you'll need to hook up. And a useful tip: if your car doesn't have a remote wire like a 99 grand prix I encountered recently, just tap into any 12v power source that is only on when the car is on (cig lighter is this in most all cars), run a wire from it to a switch, then from the switch to the amps. Mount the switch somewhere discreet like in the armrest. I do this in most installs even if there is a remote wire. Instant kill switch (for when you're ridin dirty ;P).
