Installation Estimates...just your guesses

I have all my own equipment, minus some stereo adapters I'm sure they'll say I need. I'm a Michigan resident and regular customer with Car Tunes and Mickey Shorr. I'd just like an educated guess on what you guys think these installs should cost, keep in mind I have my own equipment.

2007 Dodge Charger

--------------------------

*keeping factory radio. Also keeping factory speakers for now.

(1) JL Audio 12w3v2-d4

Ported Enclosure built to specs

RCA Line Converter

4 ga. Power Kit

Hifonics BXi-608

Alarm/Auto Start (the alarm has not been chosen yet, but it will be your basic alarm with automatic start)

2001 Cadillac Deville

--------------------------

(3) JL Audio 12w3v3-8

Sub Amp - Hifonics BXi 1606D

Front Components (5 ¼) CDT

Pioneer In-Dash TV

Alarm/Auto Start (same alarm as above)

Comp. Amp TXI6006

Sealed Enclosure for 3-12's built to specs

(2) 4 ga. amp kits

installation quote?

If I let anything out, just let me know, but I think I've got everything covered. Car Tunes does the best work in my area, that I know of. Mickey Shorr is cheaper and is not as backed up most of the time. Car Tunes prices also vary from store to store, especially as far as installation. In addition, if anyone in the Michigan area can recommend another quality shop in South Eastern Michigan, feel free to leave that information as well.

Thank You.

the remote start on the charger is gonna be costly i was quoted 1200-1500 on my magnum on my viper 2 way. i ended up getting it done from another guy at a smaller shop. he had no idea all the work invoved did for 200.00 then said he would never do for a basic price again.

Are you experienced at all? I'd try to do as much you can by yourself. Amp wiring isn't difficult at all once you know what you're doing.

The Chargers can come with three different type factory systems (can make a difference in the price)

To install an amplifier to factory system averages from 75.00 to 125.00 + any needed parts

I didn’t understand if you all ready had the Sub Enclosure or not

Pre-fab 50.00 to 100.00 shop built 200.00 + (type of finish will make most difference; carpet, vinyl, paint, other)

Remote start; 350.00 to 500.00 + extra parts and modules

If a customer bring me his\hers own equipment I give absolutely no warranty of any kind

Trying to save money on equipment will cost you more in the long run

To answer some of the questions.

1. Yes I'm experienced in installing car audio. I'm far from a pro, but I've done several amp installs over and over and over. The reason I don't want to do it is because I'm ........ lazy and it's cold outside. But these prices are changing my mind.

2. Yes I already have enclosures for both setups.

3. I have all my own equipment because most of this stuff is from my old cars. Everyone in my family uses JL Audio so it's passed down whenever the next person upgrades. I'd never pay the prices for components or stereos that these shops ask, they are simply way too much. So my current products are a mixed of things I've already owned and a few new things.

4. The alarm will just be a remote start with an alarm, no two way. It was most likely be made by Code Alarm (which is the Car Tunes brand) or Viper.

I will begin calling local shops, 3 or 4 of them, and asking them to quote a price. However, I think it would be best to just go up there so they can see I'm serious. I could possibly just have the wires ran, because I can do the amp wiring for myself.

Car Tunes prices sound pretty darn good.

As far as the charger goes......

Car Tunes uses Code Alarms. They said $189 installed (modules and everything) for the alarm/auto start.

$75 for the amp install. They guarantee all their work. All of my equipment is new in box on the Charger install.

I didn't price the Cadillac stuff yet because I haven't picked out a head unit. I'm wondering if I should go double din or not.

I here ya about the cold. I'm trying to get motivated to work on mine. It's supposed to be in the 30's this weekend so i'll prob do it then. Just get some beer and dress warm. I can work in the 20's but require 2 pairs of pants,1sweater, 2 hoodies ,gloves and a hat. and am very comfy. Its in a garage but not heated.

don't forget the lazy part. More than anything else, I don't know how to do alarms. So I'd imagine that if they could do it all at the same time, I could come out pretty good. Like I said, I'm still on budget for the charger.

If I can manage to find a nice indash-dvd with ipod support, and still stay under my $1,000 budget for the caddy, I'll be very happy.

I understand why you guys say do it myself though. The first time I saw how easy it was, especially if you're prepared with the right tools, it made me wonder why people ever paid to have it done. All in all though, I just rather not deal with it. I've had both places to installs on 4 cars and they've all been good thus far.

The charger is a basic Audio install, so 75 - 125.

The remote is another story. 189 installed is a dam good price with modules.

The Cadillac needs an amp bypass and/or a GMOS harness. The harness will cost a bit.

do you have any idea how much the harness will cost?

keep in mind, its not running to the stock HU anymore. I think I'm going with the Pioneer p5000DVD.

as for the alarm price, car tunes might be full of **. I called Mickey Shorr and they said $259. I told CT I had the base model charger, with a the metal key and they still said $189.

The metal key maybe why it is lower. It does not have the Keyless entry wrapped around the key????

On the Caddy. The Data network runs through the Radio and the amp, and lots of stuff don't work without it. The Park brake will not come off with out it. Cost guess is about $120 for the Harness.

shucks, maybe I did tell them the wrong thing. It does have keyless entry. but they said an entire plastic key. Maybe I misunderstood them. I remember my cousins Magnum costing more because of the key as well.

We did an 04 300m last week with the keyless. to train the module you have to have both keys and the take one of them apart. Pain in the ***. Even had to send the guy to the dealership so they could set it for 3 keys instead of 2.
