I love my infrared grill for the convenience and fast cooking times, but I do miss having a charcoal grill sometimes. I still smoke on my gas grill, I will soak my chips and make a foil boat thing with sides and place it directly on the burners and smoke. As they dry out I replace them with more wet wood.

My Dad has one of those and that thing is no joke. Neither is the price tag.

Maybe when I head back to Texas I can convince him to let me"borrow" it

I've heard of people doing this. Was at Lowes and thought about buying some chips but decided against it

I just picked up a 3 burner Char-Broil Infrared from Lowe's for my birthday. I had a small infrared before that and hated it because the grates would get clogged up and not cook evenly. The new on I got has grates that come apart so you can actually clean the **** thing which is wayyy better. It gets hot super fast and cooks fast as well. So far I'm happy with it. The price wasn't too bad either @ $400

I was pro charcoal for a long time, switched to propane and everything I grill still tastes just as good.

The main problem I have with my infrared grill is that sometimes it gets too hot, even on low. I have to check the temp often and regulate the temp by opening the lid or turning off burners.
