Infinitys harsh?

I am about to upgrade my new cars factory audio and I was looking for four 6.5 inch components priced around $180-220 per pair.

I did some reading here on the forums and lots of people said the tweets where harsh? I didn't notice that when I heard them in the sound room at car toys. But I'm someone inclined to listen to sound advice. I like clarity but I'm also on a tight budget since I need to get a JL Cleansweap and a 300/4 amp to go with the four 6.5s.

Can someone recommend a good coaxial?

If I buy and let cartoys do the install, I'm limited to Alpine, Eclipse, Focal, Pioneer, JL audio, and Infinity speakers. I did like the sound of the Infinity kappa 60.7cs when running off a $499 deck and Eclipse EA4000 amp and even the JL 300/4.

The reference ones I compaired to seemed to have that harshness.

For an amp I'm leaning toward the JL 300/4 since I got the JL 1000/1 running my two 12w3v2 @ 1.5 ohm subs now, and the 300/4 is power regulated so I would probably get better SQ as the 1000/1 will be ******* the voltage down.

I think when they say harsh, they mean the tweeter is a bit too bright. If you like the sound of them, go for them.

I would imagine you could dull the brightness with your eq.

The Kappa's with metal tweets can get nasty. The Reference series with silk tweets are very smooth.

I have had both kappa's and the reference series. The kappa's are harsh - I would not buy them again. The reference series were much better. Overall however I would not buy another infinity speaker - I think you can do better for the money or a lot better for a little more money.

I installed my set of 6.5 kappas today, I guess you can say there harsh, but I personally perfer it that way so it made no difference to me. I have 4 tweeters in one of my cars and 7 in the other, so...

A showroom and a car is different. In a show room, you're in a....room!

In a car, you have obstacle in the way such as the steering wheel, dash, etc whatever has curves. This is critical to how speakers sound because reflection can make your response curve peaky, giving you the impression that it sounds harsh.
