Well heres my problem. I have a JL12w6v2 in a jl spec sealed box from my old Honda civic HB. I sold the honda an bought a 06 Jetta.I have been thinking about trying a IB (one 18 ED) ,but I have never heard a IB. I havent been able to hear the jl in the jetta because I have not installed my head unit yet. I was wondering would it sound as good as it did in the HB.The trunk on a jetta is sealed very good.Which route would you guys take? Too bad I spent my money on the 12w6v2 and only used it for 2 months. How would the IB compare to the JL?

Port the JL to the cabin of your Jetta by removing the rear speakers, or cut a whole in the rear deck to let the bass in. You wont regret it.

So build a ported box and have the front baffle(front of sub and port )attached to another baffle that seperates the trunk and the cabin so the sub and port fire into the cabin and are isolated from the trunk?

IMO, you might not have to go that far, but a good ported box and deaden the trunk to start. If it turns out the trunk still "swallows" too much of the sound, then possibly port into the cabin. Once you start cutting, it is hard if not impossible to back. Try the easiest, least evasive way first, and then go from there.

You can do that, but what I meant.......just take your rear speakers out.......leave the grills in place. Place the sealed sub box in your trunk facing the rear of the car......whallaaaaaaaa......BOOM. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

So I take it that everybody is against IB. Must not sound that good.
That is a horribly incorrect assumption.

Most people on here simply aren't familiar with IB.

Infinite baffle is the way to go if sound quality is your priority. IB with a good sub is about as close as you can get to sonic purity in the subbass frequencies.

If done correctly, Yes.

Might actually have the potential to get louder, and still maintain excellent SQ.

I've been toying with an idea similar to yours myself, actually.

Squeak, could one 18ED in a IB set-up get as loud and and have the SQ of my sealed jl12?(assuming both get 600 watts)
Probably louder, given the immense difference in displacement potential.

Sound quality wise...I've never heard a 19Ov2 (I don't even think they're actually released yet), but IB *in general* will yield better sound quality than sealed.

The 19Ov2 will likely end up having more bottom end output with less upper bass response, given the specs of the Ov2.
