Improving fuel economy...

Alrighty I filled my Audi A4 up and got over 475 miles to the tank. Feels good to my old big truck yes I know. I just finished the 75k maintaince. I changed the battery, plugs/wires, filter, timing belt, tires, and some other things. As of right now I have done the following to the car to increase fuel mileage.

Cold-Air Intake

Exhaust system

Water Wetter (Runs cooler, yes it works)

STP Fuel Cleaner

Brand new Airfilter

Synthetic Fluids

Removed spair tire, jack, and other items just laying around the car.

Any other ideas to keep the car in tip top shape and improve gas mileage. Boy would 525 miles a tank be nice. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif That's my goal for one of these days anyway. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/*******.gif.a649d21efc0d1fd4890a6428166586c1.gif

water wetter? never heard of it. im assuming by runs cooler your talking about the engine?
just an FYI, warmer running engines get better gas mileage...
I think he meant he cools the air that goes into the engine thus increasing hp and mpg.

but as for the engine itself isnt the warmth good for mpg only up to a certain extent?

clean your MAF sensor or get a new one (not cheap haha so I would suggest cleaning it)

i did it on my mercedes when it was throwing me some engine codes, and it has yet to do it again. gets WAYY better gas mileage and idles better too.

Me personally, I wouldnt touch a sensor if it wasnt bad, because why fix whats not broken?

Some other good tips are

1) using the lowest octane gas that doesn't cause your engine to knock. Anything higher will just cause you to run rich and burn extra fuel.

2) keep tires inflated to exactly what the recommended psi is. some people go like .2 psi higher or lower because they think it rides better, but it does NOT help your gas mileage at all, it actually hurts it

3) highway driving = windows up and AC on, city driving = windows down and ac off... generally riding on the highway with ur windows down will make ur car less aerodynamic, so it will get slightly less gas mileage. I tend to only roll my windows down in the city, and just jack up the ac on the highway.

4) empty out extra stuff you don't need in your car. every extra 100 pounds = approximately 2% less gas mileage

wasn't that on myth busters? I don't remember the results but they did a track test w/an explorer......

oh yeah and the big one...DONT FLOOR IT EVERYWHERE YOU GO
lol x2...when I first got my Jeep, has a 4.0L I6, I wanted to see how the power was and everything. Had to refuel 3 times in the week. Now driving normal and what not once a week at a half tank

lol acceleration is probably where most people burn their gas. and use your brakes conservatively because if you brake hard alot, thats alot of momentum lost and you have to regain it using your gas.

i do exactly the opposite... when im sitting in traffic is when i get hot as hell so i roll up the windows and turn on the a/c but then when im on the highway i like teh wind blowing in my hair so i roll down the windows... comfort > gas mileage

probably the #1 thing is keeping you engine maintained and in tune... sounds like you're doin good with that....

next week before i go back to school ive gotta few things to do to the stang...

oil change, maf/throttle body/iac cleaning, fuel filter, air filter, coolant flush/fill, and ive got a new o/r X pipe and catback to put on if it ever gets here in time...
