Ok i have this sub in a sealed box and i need some help. First off i think the sub is a version 1 sub, im not sure looks exactly like the V2 sub but the image dynamics logo is all black. So im not sure what the RMS power is on the sub i know v2 is 500rms. Right now i have this sub being pushed by a Punch 250.2. when i first put the sub in the car i was shocked, I never really heard a single 12 hit as hard as it does and drop as low as it does also. but when i start playing it hard my bass was not sounding right, like it was distorting. I know its not being over powered. I opened my trunk with the sub playing at moderate volume and i could hear the sub rattling. I pulled the sub out the box and checked it over real good, all looked fine. I talked with a friend and he said it sounded like the dust cover was ratting. I once again pulled the sub out the box, removed the dust cover and to my amazement i was shocked to see that one of the voice coil wires was broke. it had been rattling on the dust cover. I spent about an hour trying to re-solder the wire, got it fixed and reinstalled the dust cover using emblem glue(all i could think to use) I let the sub sit out of the box overnight to dry. Put the sub back in the car and played it and now it hits twice as hard as it did before, but the rattle is still there. To me it sounds like a misaligned voice coil because the speaker does not "pop" when played hard so i know its not bottoming out from being over powered. I can take and with good force and punch the sub and try to bottom it out and it wont and it doesnt make any noise either. I do notice though that there is an area on the cone that seems to be raised higher than the rest of the cone. I think that this is causing the noise when its playing under its own power. i can hit the cone, pull it in and out as much as i can and i cant recreate the rattle. Like i said it sounds just like the "pole" rubbing the magnet. I hate to junk this sub cuz the thing just rocks.
