I'm searching for a "What do you call it?"

I'm not playing a trivia game here, I am just trying to find what you call an item so I can search for it, read about it and then maybe eventually purchase it for my system.

It is an in-line volume control that you can put in between your head unit and amp. I want something I can mount up front under or on the dash that I can turn up or down the volumes of each amp from the driver's seat. I think it plugs into the preamp outs of the HU and is in series with the cables running to the amps. I could be wrong about that.

Does this sound familiar? Can you point me in the right direction?

I thought this but that may not adjust the output of each amp in particular, it would just change certain frequencies... no?

I did just try to quote you but the board said it would be posted after the moderator approved it (paraphrased)

Anyway, your link put me in the right direction. My amp is a JL Audio e1200 and I know that it does have a receptacle for a bass knob. Now I just need to track one down.
