Here I was having a good day, test fit new box, it fits ok, so-so. Im happy. Get a pay check, im happy. Drive to bank without disconnecting amps power, while wires are loose in back seat, not bothering to tape them off.. NOT HAPPY. wtf was I thinking? Half way to bank I see and smell smoke behind me, coming out of my alpine >.

I guess this means the board is fried?

Im so pissed at myself. Took me 3 weeks to find this **** amp and 8 months later is fried //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/mad.gif.c18f003ab0ef8a0d9c27ca78d77a6392.gif

Gah, whats worse, fried amp, or knowing its my own fault?

what'd you do? short out + and - on the amp somewhere? sorry to hear it.
Im guessing this is exactly what heppend. I was able to find this 6 year old amp new, in box, never powered up on ebay in january.. such an awesome find.. 0.08thd @ 4ohm, under rated, but birth sheet put out 110 X2 @ 4ohm, perfect for a good set of components, or bridged it put out some mean bass stable up to 1ohm. I was going to be replacing the kicker amp powering speakers and use this to power a good set of components and then a Massive Audio 1500.1 to power the subs.. now I have to re-think everything =(.. seriously, it just about made me cry.

PS: Me and my whole truck smell like circuit board and chlorine(?), sucks lol.

eewww... the 'electrical' smell.

It sucks that it happened, but it can definitely be repaired. Alpine's amps are extremely well designed and have excellent internal protection. Repair shouldn't be a problem, and you will still have a solid amp.

Ive been thinking. The solid red LED came on after this happened, which indicates bad power or blown fuse.. First thing I did was pull the fuse to stop any more damage, it was fine, not blown. Maybe its just the power supply thats screwed up? What do yall think?

Well, as you can see its nasty looking =P

I called up alpine, and they told me 70$(which includes return shipping) will fix whatever is wrong, so unless I can get it fixed locally im going to go with that route(locally to avoid hassles of shipping).

EDIT: Well, I called the repair shop alpine said to mail it to and they told me it would be 140$, and that from the way I described it it would be likely they would have to decline repairs and mail it back to me as-is, AARGH. 140$ and maybe a little extra and I can get another one of these, or a different amp =/...

Well, I called around, everybody wants arm+leg(=//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/mad.gif.c18f003ab0ef8a0d9c27ca78d77a6392.gif ) to repair the amp, so I went on ebay and bought an Eclipse 4212 2ch amp. 130w@4ohm .008THD hehe. I'll be putting the new components on this amp once I decide on some new speakers(one of the 6010's woofers VC is a little messed up, yea, I know, shit for luck lately).

PS: Another example of my luck.. I have had two job offers for 20-24$/hr.. both are just about the farthest you can get from me, one in seattle and one in san diego >.

tape any bare wire this time and well done for keeping your sense of humur
Definantly taping up wire this time =(... Im keeping this amp, maybe onday I will have the spare $ to fix it, or get a good deal on a new board or something. I can always use it in my sisters car or something.

Im just happy I found a nice eclipse that fits my needs so well!
