hey all,

been looking at maybe switching my IDQ12 out for something a little different. looking for a sound quality sub and someone mentioned the illusion nd-12, which seems to be impossible to find. anybody had one of these subs and can compare them to anything? anybody know where to find them?

Back in '96 Richard Clark said it was the best sounding sub he'd ever heard //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Great SQ sub, not a lot of output. Presently hard to find since they haven't been built since ~2002, but Illusion is back up and running and building more drivers. I have heard that they are going to sell directly to the public till they can get a good dealer network organized, but no promises on that. Contact them (http://www.illusionaudio.com) and see when the new run of drivers will be available for sale and how to get ahold of one.

hmm, sounds like good stuff.

4ohm single voice coil, huh? might have to go with 2 nd-10's then //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

thanks for the info.

I remember reading somethin about illusion audio products coming soon in djdilliodon profile so you might wanna ask him on aim. goodluck....im interested in knowing more about there products because of the low depth their driver requires

Another pure SQ sub is the Phase Linear Aliante. Pricey but outstanding SQ.

There is an original 12 for sale here (there is also a link in the thread to a UK site where the Aliante is popular):

TheAutophile can provide a new one:

Yup. Single 4ohm VC.

And if you are looking into getting a ND-10, check this out: http://www.cartunes.com/yardsale.htm - brand new in box ND-10 for $99!!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif That is an absolute steal!! If it wasn't for the fact I just laid down some cash on an Eclipse 8053, I'd be all over that ND-10 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsupwink.gif.129404938effda6ad9cca39e7f4b58a3.gif

I believe their licensing ran up on the name "Phase Linear", so they are now calling themselves Phase Evolution //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

what's a reasonable sealed box size for that sub?

squeak,

You're right about the name change, but they still us a phaselinear URL.

Guess they'll get around to changing that too some day.

To be honest, I get tired of typing up the explanation of the name change each time I post about the Aliante.

The ND-10's like .9cuft each. Yes, they are shallow mount subs, but they still need a decent sized box.
hmm, is it just me or is the frequency range they list for the nd- subs seem rather high. guess they don't play that low?

nd-10i -- 82-500hz

nd-12i -- 62-400hz

how much do those phase linears generally run new?

an idq isnt an sq sub? if you are trying to flatten out response ap membrane them and even make the box smaller. look the ap mats up at usd's website. its a whole different way of tuning.

Those are not correct. The website has some obvious typos on it. The original white papers for the ND-10's listed the frequency response at 32hz-500hz.

However, they do play rather high. Soon as I get some time, I'll have a ND-10 in each door as my mids //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif (mating them to horns)

Around $400, IIRC.
