I wanna compete, but i have no clue

So i really love car audio, well automotive all together, right now i have a 1996 geo metro lsi, a 100w 2 ch acoustic amp. a kenwood excelon deck with front read and sub preouts. How are contests classified and how do i find them? is there anything for low budget casual cars like myself? For my birthday i am ordering a ssa Dcon 15" single 4 ohm. i am still in high school and am working on getting a job lol. my current speakers are a laughing matter but i must say they sound great. Fronts: sony xplod 6.5 40w rms. Rears: 100w boss audio 4"s Sub" mtx thunder 5000 10" 250w rms running on 100w coustic amp in a 1 cube box at i believe 33hz? designed and built myself.

Sorry for being such a lengthy post any help would be awesome

there is a section for car audio comps if you go to your region there are some people asking about this in your area a few years back you should pm them and they should be able to help you.

Also if you really want to learn about car audio you should go to bcae1.com they have alot of good info in one place and will help you understand what you are getting into.

welcome and have fun fell free to ask away i think the comps are great only been to a few but so far so good.actually not so good i was at a show with meade and thor and probly some other guys but i didnt get to meet them maybe later more fun.(Thats right probly)

I have read alot of Bcae1 i understand electricity pretty well, thanks alot for the feedback. also i was wondering, where do i order parts to mod an amp? i really want to modify that coustic 100watt. what parts need to be exchanged? and would just replacing the wire gauge help?

Ok, you need to learn ALOT from just that question alone. First off, you can't "mod" an amp from doing 100 watts to doing anything more than that at a particular impedience. You CAN remove the impedience protection circuit from some ampliifiers, which lets you wire your subs to a lower impedence and your amp will put out more power at a lower impedence however the saying "the candle that burns twice as bright but lasts half as long" would apply in this situation since your amp will live a short life because of the components inside of it cannot handle what your asking of it for very long.

so, in short. Buy a real amp if your serious about competing. And by "real amp", be prepared to pay over $800 for it USED to even start to be competitive in the sport. You can substitute not having a high power amp by having alot of moving surface area - but you're going to pay for that too.

Don't belive me? google "snoopdan".
