For some reason tube amps turn me on suddenly... Is there a decent tube amp kit out there for cheap to start out with? I want to build a headphone amp, or one for a small set of towers.

Any suggestions?

If you don't want to go the single ended route, there are other options out there - look on Audiogon (http://www.audiogon.com) and Ebay for used tube amps pulled from Magnavox consoles and such - these usually only require a little bit of work and sound excellent.

All I can say is 12AX7's and 6550's. Maybe if you like a dry sound with less warmth a KT-88, although most ppl cant hear the difference.
