I think my HO Alty took a s***

So everything was runnign fine until yesterday.....with the car on my voltage was siting at 11.6v //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif. My initial thought was the battery going bad, until i measured the bat with the car off and the battery is sitting at 12.3v. I turn the engine on and the sitting voltage drops back down to upper 11's. I measured the voltage coming off the HO alty with the car on, it is also upper 11's, as if there's no charge coming off it at all //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

sounds like the alty is fried right?

well to me it sounds like it is taking a shi*. even if the battery is bad, with the car running, the alternator will still out put the 13.5 or so volts to the battery, regardless of battery condition.

if the voltage coming off is that low im afraid to say its gone...u could take it to autozone and let them test the real power its putting off but the dmm will be fine enough...

you may try taking it to a alternator shop and see if they cannot fix it. it may be an easy fix, and would save you some money.

autozone testers aren't designed to test HO alty's liek this. A few years ago I had another 220 amp alty (same brand) that I thought i might have damaged (i grounded the pos out on the alty chasis bad enough to be concerned)....local discount audio alty tester said i was bad, i sent it back to the manufacture and they said it was A-Okay and sent it back as is.

i talked to the manufacture today and they also said it might be an easy fix. I think i know alocal alternator place that can take a look at it. hopefully it's the regulator and something cheap/easy to fix.

put my stock alty back i and everything is back to normal (minus the extra amperage i need to run my cyclops full tilt //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif)

should have my alty looked at, i pray it's somethign small, easy, and cheap to fix.
