It's for head units with iPod cables that only charge the 12v firewire iPods. It changes the charge voltage to 5v for the USB iPods and moves it to the right pin. But the head unit has to at first support the firewire-type iPods. My HU won't charge any of them. I've since done a ton more searching and come up with this, which has a 3.5mm aux cable that I don't need (for aux-in head units), and a pass-trough dock on the bottom that I can connect my control cable to.
