i have the gtx480 amp and it is supposed to be 250W RMS @ 4 ohm bridged stable but the **** thing gets really hot and resets after about 20 minutes at about 3/4 volume. i have the gain at about half.

i have the speakers in parralel and they are both 8 ohms so the amp "sees" 4ohms.

i measured the watts coming off the amp the ghetto way (V's squared divided by resistance) and it got up to 462 W peak. which is abotu where it should be.....

any ideas? i have 8 gauge power and ground and 10 speaker wire.

well, i've cooked 3 or 4 sony's bout 4/5 yrs ago. i still say they **** and its the amp being chock full of no goodness. But otherwise...

Did you get that 462 W Peak with music or test tones?? You shouldnt really get a "peak" reading with a DMM w/tones. You shouldnt be setting gains w/o tones, too much fluctuation... Yes, your gain sounds like its too high. That and, get a mopre reliable amp. They do implode, alot.

Edit, get some 4 ga power AND ground wire.

well it was an eminem song and the tone stayed put for a few seconds i will try with some test tones i have. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

yeah i wouldnt even have this amp if it werent almost a freebie when i bought my kickers. my other amp died.... it was an old *** jensen that i had been abusing for years.

will post back with the readings.

XPLODE's products are made for looks, they are officially made RED , to attract attention. ( u know nothing about car audio, and then u look at that RED hot sexy speaker, woofer or amp, then u like, mmmm.. that should be HOT!!) //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/coolflash.gif.4f9740e1268764cfe452b9259e375e3b.gif

yes i have 2 kicker 10" that are 8 ohm each wired in parralel. SVC so 4 ohms //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

i set my gain w/ an oscope w/ test tones. but then when i switched to reg music, it would clip(oscope still hooked up) did i do something wrong? or is it right to set it to where it doesn't clip w/ music?
