Yesterday 2 guys came over to my house who saw my add on ebay for renting out the DD-1. They were real nice guys. Before one of them came he told me that he had 6 12s in his suburban and sent me his youtube name. I didn't bother looking because I figured he had cheap equipment. And I was right.
So the first car we did. His pioneer HU clipped @ 58/62. He was listening to it at 30. He had the amp gain @ 1/4. It didn't clip until above 1/2. But his "2500" watt SSL amp was sooooo small. My brothers memphis 1000 is the same size.
Well he turned it on to play some music on his 4 hifonics 12s in his jimmy. I wasn't impressed. It was sad. It hit about the same as my friends massive audio 15. But cheap equipment isn't going to give you much of a result. And he was really happy.
So then we did the next guys audiopipe. He had 2 1800 models. Didn't look to see which ones. But his pioneer didn't clip at all. And after a bunch of dicking around because he had so many rca splitters that DD-1 wasn't getting a signal. We finally got it by going back to his 1st rca off the head unit. Well his audiopipe amps clipped very fast. At 1/4 gain or less.
I didn't get to hear his 6 12 hifonics because he wasn't getting signal to the amps anymore. Probably through his maze of rca's.
Then I did my buddies massive audio 15 on a brz 2400. That amp didn't clip almost until the end. But he was clipping his sub HARD before. Because he had the gain all the way up and the bass boost. I told him to never touch the bass boost.
So then he complained that the sub was too quiet. And we rewired his sub from 4 ohms to 1.
But now he complains that his lights dim. But I warned him before he bought everything that, tghat might be a problem. Civics have small alternators. At least he upgraded the front battery to an xs power.
Anyways. The audiopipe and SSL seem like complete garbage.
But it is hard to say since neither of the guys had upgraded electrical. But I would think the best budget amps between those 3 would be the hifonics.
Sound Storm Laboratories SSL-AE125M 2500 Watt Monolock Amplifier
the audio pipe was APSM 1500
The sub he has is a Massive Audio QC15. It's in an undersized box. 2ft3. The is rated for 800RMS. We wired it @ 1 ohm. And with the HU and amp gains set properly. The sub was able to take all of the amp. But that could be do to the box size and the fact that his electrical isn't upgraded.
