Ok since I just recently put a new system in my truck I have now given my kid the bug. He picked up one of the same amps I have a RF powerbd 500.1(lucky *** kid grabbed it of craigslist for 60 bucks). So he has that and a nice Clarion HU and a set of MA audio 5.25 comps I had laying around. Well he just came walking in with with 3 of these Lanzar MaxP 124dPicked them up BNIB for 125$ for 3 Goin to wire them series series parallel for a 1.33 ohm load or series series series for a 2.67 ohm load(will take suggestions for which would be best). I dont know much about these subs. Does anyone around here know anything about them and how will they do on the RF amp (birthsheet says 743 watts at 2ohms). You guys think like me I and that these may hold up long enough till he gets a nice set of subs or for a 17yr kid working for the summer and limited budget wise they will hold up?

man I read the title and had a ton of jokes ready then read it's your son:crap: you ruined my day, but for real good to hear that you and your kid have something you can do together I can't wait for my son to get a little older so we can do a build, I don't really know anything about those subs but great score on the amp for sure!

Yeah I told him when he brought home the amp that he was set for his sub stage only problem will be getting an amp to keep his mids/high audible lol

Yeah reliablity is what I am worried about he is busting his *** washing dishes and last thing I want is for him to think he wasted his money if they blow in a month.

There a couple discussions about the Lanzar's being good budget subs. Some people hate em' and some people love em'. My daughter hangs out with a kid that has a couple 12's in his trunk in a crappy ported box. He's been giving them about 400 a piece and they're loud! He's also had them them over a year now and beats the holy Hell out of them. I say go for it.

keep an eye out in pawn shops for an amp for his highs they usually have punch/power 2ch's that can be had rather cheap.

I am going to go borrow a SMD DD1 to set up the amp and hu and then will prolly back off just a little more for saftey.

DoesDad well I am hoping the same for him. I am running 1hx2 and 2 p1's I borrowed from a buddy untill I get my other 2hx2's back from reconing but I am planning on switching up subs next spring and will give him the 3 hx2's which I know will take a beating.

edit: Just found a MTX RT2120 amp for 15 bucks I sent my wife over to grab at a yard sale. That will be nice for his mids/highs.

I think he will be alright as far as longevity is concerned. They should be able to take that power with ease and as long as the gains are set correctly, the subs should hold up for a long while. A custom built box is something that you both could do together and it would help those subs get louder and make fore more satisfaction in the end.

this.

Yes we will be building our own box around 5-6 cubes ported I think will work nice but will check the sub specs and see what we need to do.
