HP Compaq nx7400 Recovery

My roommates gf's mom...yea...gave him a computer for free. It's old, and crappy, and we just want to format the hard drive. Help? We found a few websites, but they say to go to "System Recovery" in the menu, but we don't see it.

Would there be a way to access it from original boot?
