how to view hardrive partitions?

This is not a tough process. If you use the Dell CD, it'll likely install whatever you need.
If you're using a non-dell Windows XP CD, you may have to actually learn.
Man why would anyone actully use the dell CD? The drivers would be outdated and it would be just as bloated with crap....sheesh...do a real windows install and get the latest drivers and none of the crap dell tries to force on you! Learning ISNT a bad thing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Yep, outdated drivers, but working ones. The first step is to get rid of all the yellow exclamation marks in "Device Manager" before you update everything to the latest and greatest.

If you're not a computer guru, restoring to OEM is the best way to start, without the slightest hint of a doubt.

Cybe's advice was solid for this particular case. I agree with you though. If you know what you're doing, stick with the raw install and latest drivers of each component afterwards.

i just got a new dell laptop and was horrified by the 65 processes the thing was running the first time i turned it on...i guess i just think a fresh xp install is about as easy as restoring the dell image. But maybe im being overly confident in peoples abilities to find and dL drivers. I get so mad at my dad who always wants me to wipe his POS spyware infected fuster cluck. Its so easy, do it yourself!!

Now i could understand people being a little hesitant to try some of the stuff im currently looking at doing to this new laptop //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/up2something.gif.dd110ecf3ae4b76050d87598f2f8de7c.gif
