How to remove x995 head unit

I have the face plate and plastic cover removed but, cannot get these keys to work. I am not even sure how to put them in the slots. Kenwood really needs to spend more time showing how to do this on the manual.

I am trying to put my antenna adapter in and now that I have it out I can't seem to get this adapter to fit.

Why not just pull the whole dash kit? Or is this being done in a vehicle with a true single din slot where you don't have that option?
