How to mount crossovers?

I currently have my crossovers mounted inside the door with lots of foam around them, I heard that was bad (to be mounted inside the door). I could very easily put them in the trunk with the amp, but how can I run the tweeter wire to the inside of the door (tweeter pods installed in the doors), there is just a harness that goes from dash to door but I cant get anything trough there... any advice?

Also why is it bad to have crossovers on the doors?

Thanx!

Only reason it could be bad is because of slamming the door shut on a daily basis. It could cause some of the components in the crossover to come loose.

Also could be bad if you installed them in an area that would allow them to get wet (all doors get some water in them).

You would have to drill holes in your door and door frame and create a path for the wire to run. This would entail grommets and some sort of sleeve (wire loom, for example) to protect the wire.

Mounting it in the trunk isn't a grand idea either, since it would double the amount of wire you would need to run.

See above //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

As long as you have them properly protected from the elements, I would honestly just leave them in your door.

its not BAD to mount them in the doors... but it exposes them to excess heat, cold, and moisture... which isnt exactly GOOD.

Im not exactly sure where your tweeters are... if theyre in the doors, just run the wire alongside the mid's wire back to your crossover. If theyre in the a-piller or dash, just run them straight back.

You're more likely to introduce noise with longer wire runs, especially at higher frequencies.

The doors should not be a problem, especially if your mounting it around foam. As long as it's a solid mount it will be fine.

Yeah as said above, make sure there are NO chances of the xover getting wet.

Mine are mounted in my trunk... so I needed a hell of a lot of wire to get them all the way to the front doors. No noise whatsoever though. Guess I was just lucky //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

Xovers are kind of robust //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I'd be more concerned about speakers getting wet than xovers... If a component comes off there is some serious issue in build quality in the xover... not that I would put it past some mfrs //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif -- you should be fine //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif -- Electrolytic caps may fail a little more quickly in the extremes of doors -- and ferrite core inductors could possibly rust enough to create saturation problems after years...

Nothing wrong with mounting things in your trunk... if you don't mind the extra wire cost... -- you shouldn't run into any noise problems with higher level signals //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

SSS,

no audiophile anywhere would send an unbalanced line more than 10 ft.

You're lucky, or you just haven't tested it on an RTA or with a truly tested ear.

Ology, ferrite cores in doors can be a problem in northern, salt filled conditions...like ohio...not KY or Missouri

the same "audiophiles" that spend $500 a foot on speaker wire, I'm sure.

Gave me a good chuckle this morning thanks. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
