Probably spent about 3 months of my after tax income on sound system for my current car. Don't ask me how much in actual $$... I know the approx. cost but prefer to think of it in terms of about 3 months income...most of the expense went to the install, as I didn't want to do any of the work myself so that made it lots more expensive. I'm currently having the speakers moved around to different locations to hopefully improve the sound a bit. I'm actually kind of excited to see how the changes are going to turn out. Hopefully the sound meets my expectations. Also thinking of replacing the small 7" screen with a larger icon 15" flip down model. That alone would be another few thousand plus installation, and is something I would rarely use but think would be cool to have. I haven't spent much on anything else over the last several years (except lots of cds) so what the hey.
