How loud can we get?

OK I found my list. here are some excerpts.

at 160 dB flashlights exhibit electromagnetic pulsing.

170 dB = 1 PSI

177 dB = 2 PSI

180 dB = 3 PSI

183 dB = 6 PSI

194 dB = 1 atmospher or 14.6 PSI or just over 1 BAR

Notice how PSI increases dramatically in the upper dB levels.

This is one of the reasons why it is increasingly difficult to get higher dB when you are up to that point.

It is much easier to go from 150 dB to 160 dB, then it is to go from 180 dB to 183 dB.

Also, the reason why we theorize that 185 dB is the highest possible level to achieve with reproduced sound is because the pressure alone would destroy any materials that we can possibly used today.

Ed, you know you're my bro right?

I sat in the passenger side of Cooks caravan at 175db (with the sensor in the car) where my head was, was around a 174. It was alot of pressure but I was fine that was at 65 hz.

I sat in the astrovan at 170.0 at 79 hz.

Sat in all 3 of scotties van full tilt

Sat in the Rileys, sat in the LUV for almost full tilt.

I've been in alot of loud vehicles and I've never bled through my skin or busted the blood vessels in my eyes.

My white truck would bass race a 161 and I sat in it for all the testing I did without hearing protection and one hand on the knob.

I've never experienced any real "negative" long term effects related to SPL

Only 2 cars really messed with me.

The 175 made me feel like I had a migrane for about 5 minutes after I got out...I was really thinking about going to the hospital but it slowly went away....I'll never get in anything close to that loud again.

And Scotties black van when he rebuilt to the 12 12s, it played some stupidly low note like the high 40s and did a mid 67 I think, did a 66 with me in it and that made my chest hurt but was liveable.

I'm wondering what it would take for your heart to skip a beat? Or if mine had pulsated or had a lot of pressure on it during a burp?

I need to email mythbusters and get them to test a buster dummy in Scott truck lol

your heart can skip a beat or even stop without knowing about it.

Just like when it stops when you sneeze. So I am sure we have all had our hearts stopped before or skipped before.

I want to post my list here but its 33,000 characters and they only let me put 10,000 or so.

here is part of it.

I will put more on later.

That list is pretty ghetto though. Also note that it does not give a frequency and for many of those things, it will be frequency dependent as I'm sure the effects on the human body are frequency dependent. Also, those PSI measurements must be peak values as the pressure will vary with time.

For example, I once was hit with a riot control sonic blaster horn thing as a demonstration and it made me want to die. It was a high frequency noise sound from 10khz to 30khz I believe and around 140-145dB. I could do nothing but clench my ears and bend over/turn around and that didn't help much. It was as if the sound was crawling on my skin and driving me insane. But I have sat just fine in 150dB vehicles and not been bothered by the bass at all.

youre right, different frequencies do have different effects.

The military found that high frequencies can cause more pain, especially since human hearing is more sensitive from 1000 hz to 10,000 hz.

And low fequencies can cause nausea and othyer things but can be more bareable,

different freequencies effect different parts of the body becasue of varying tissue densities and sizes of organs.

there is an average clitoral resonance of 33 hz, and an average rectal resonance of 7 hz.

Play either of those loud enough and they can cause reactions in those areas.

I've also had the opportunity to sit in a variety of vehicles ranging from

Rileys old van on numerous occasions (shit was so disgustingly montrous)

Randys Green Pick Up last year at Carlisle (full bass race run..very crazy)

and a variety of Extreme vehicles at full tilt with the doors shut.. including our own on many occasions... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

it's an experience and I highly reccomend it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif
