How do you kill static?

My new amp from Jynx came in today, but before I could celebrate, the thing made for a shocking discovery - static! Lots of it. It's constant, the gain has no effect on how loud it gets. The crossover / qbass settings don't affect it, either. It's there, I can't get rid of it, and it's annoying. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif

Now, my install is far from perfect, so rather than assuming the amp is bad, I want to do all I can to minimize this static. Jynx went through the effort of getting me this amp a day early, and I owe it to him to do some digging and modifications to my install before making any assumptions and judgement.

The power, ground, RCA, and speaker leads for one side are *ALL* run in parallel. So close they might as well be braided. The power and ground are basically sitting in top of the crossovers, as well. The amp is less than an inch from the crossovers. All these things (I'm assuming) could cause static, yes? So if I move all those thing to the trunk, and put some distance between everything, would it help? Any other sugguestions? Thanks.

that should help. also try regrounding your headunit. i had a slight problem with alt whine so i grounded my headunit directly to the battery and went away. i got a feeling it is the amp. use to have a alpine amp that had static and as soon as i got a different one, static was gone. also try improving the ground on amp

Well, it's late, it's cold, my toes are frozen (worthless steel toe boots) and I'm not going back outside. Any adjustments will have to come tomorrow.

The problem is, the Jensen had the same problem, so unless I have 2 equally bad amps, I'm going to assume there's an install problem. The HU already has bee re-grounded, there's no alt whine, period. Just this static. Also, my first attempt at turning on the amp went awry when the positive line got PULLED OUT, so a poor ground is possible. These Directed wire clips are strange to me.

Tomorrow, I will buy more wire. I'll seperate ground and positive from the RCAs and the speaker lines, move the amp to the trunk (Different pos/neg line) and bypass the EQ completely, and see how that works. If I can't get rid of this static, well, we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.
