how do u know if one voice coil is out?

i messed up big time today by messing with the wires. a small amount of smoke came out of the box and there was no sound. i changed everything back to normal and my sub is working again. its a 12'' re se in a ported box. now how would i know if only one coil is working? or must two coil work at the same time and i didnt blow anything?

no, wires did not dispatch, i checked when i fixed the wires. would there be a difference in sound?

Just check the resistance with a multimeter.

lol just put the amp on one side at a time... one coil at a time and give it a little juice and see if it moves without scratching or crackeling sounds( anything weirod is usualy bad lol)

The most common cheapest way to check any spkr is with a small battery...AA, AAA, etc. I think the same thing happened to my 8w3 except there was no smoke/smell. Checked both coils and only one of them works...??? Weird. BTW, both coils on the sub must be hooked up in order for it to work and function properly. All DVC subs are like this. Unless its a single coil sub, then it's just one.

Try the 9V battery across the terminals. If that doesn't work try the wall socket.
