How do the new alpine speakers compare to the old models from 10yrs ago?

Im asking this because i borrowed a pair of 6.5inch alpines which are about 10yrs old, and they sound fantastic. Clean deep bass, detailed highs, a very smooth sound.

Im looking at the new R series, but im worried that today they focus on louder and cheaper rather than quality.

The alpines were reference series from around 1998.

i have type r coaxials (6.5 inch) in my car and to be honest with you the sq is not bad but its nothing to go crazy about. the speakers are loud and this coming form a person that is running them off HU power. i dont want you to think the sq is horrible because its not but if your looking for sq i would go with the type x series which isnt as loud but type x is more towards sq.

If you could, post a picture...I'm trying to remember if Vifa was the OEM for them back then. I have an Alpine catalog from around 2001 around here somewhere, by then the Xs were Vifas //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Solid drivers, I'd take them over the new Rs as long as the surrounds have held together.
