How do electronic crossovers work?

different speakers are designed to work best at varying frequencies; tweeters for high frequency, midrange for middle frequency, and subwoofers for low frequency, for example. crossovers are designed to gradually limit the signal of frequencies that they were not designed to reproduce. crossovers are used to limit low frequencies to tweeters so they don't over excurse. they cut off higher frequencies for subs to reduce bass localization. and they are used to blend the frequency response of the different drivers used in the system. hope this gets you started.
