How do cooled seats work?

I understand the ventilated seats (have used them in friends cars) with perforated leather. Fans just **** air from the seats.

But how do cooled seats work? Without perforation on the leather...? (Only seen this in GM vehicles.. chevy trucks/escalades/denali etc)

Just curious. Maybe someone here has them

For real, idk.

As far as the Toyota/Lexus cars go..

there are a/c vents that run along either side of the center console, under the carpet to under the seats.

In most cases, these vents blow the air up into a fan that will distribute the air through out the seat.

The heated part of the seats are actually heating coils in a small rubber pad just under the seat cushions

Keep in mind that if you have the ac t-stat set to 75*....that is all you will get at the seats....

Yeah. How does that work in seats without perforation though is my question?

In ours, it just cools the leather on the cushion.

There are a few that take straight cold are right from the evap. box and directs it right to the seats.(not affected by the ac temp setting...)

I have only seen this on the non pref. seats.

Here is (a crappy) pic of an evap I did in a GX470 some while back.

Notice the seats are not preffed. Its hard to see but if you look closely at the evap/heater core box(dead center, behind/below the crash bar) there are 2 thin, black vents. These vents are not affected by the temp setting for the ac system and these feed the seat coolers for this model.

The vents are right were the carpet and evap box meet and connect at the bottom of the evap box.

Now my question....

Whoes bright idea was it to put the evap dead center, behind the dash, crash bar and all the front inner body wiring.....

How exactly is a rainbow made? How exactly does the sun set? How exactly does a posi-track rear end on a Plymouth work? It just does.
well, the sun refracts from the water droplets in the air. different wavelength (colors) can bend to different degrees, so the angle relationship between you, the sun, and each droplet will allow you to reprieve only one color, or none...

the sun doesn't set, the earth turns so that you no longer ave a visible path to see the sun. (colors come from the sun passing through a greater amount of atmosphere, filtering further the higher end of the light spectrum)

typically, cone clutches are on the back of the 2 side gears, spring-loaded apart, pressing these clutches into the housing. the greater the differential force present, the more the spider assembly pushes out on these side gears, again applying greater pressure on the cone clutch.

i would say more modern seats are starting to implement thermocouple elements. thermocouples not only make electricity from heat, but also super-cool with enough power in the right direction. i cannot verify 100% on these newer gm's but that was one of the more recent applications. one single element gives you both heat and cool.
