Hooking up Power wire to amp without d/c battery

It is stupid to ever have your battery negative connected when messing with your electrical. Not only can it damage your equipment, you can possibly shock yourself. Always remove your negative.

The only sure way of never blowing your electronics while installing, is to disconnect the battery ground. That's why every amplifier manual I've ever read instructs you to do so.

Most people don't do this because it takes a few more minutes and they're lazy.

I was one of these people until I blew out an Orion amp in the 90's. Now I spend the extra couple of minutes.

i never disconnect the battery when i have to disconnect my amps or head unit or w/e. i just d/c the ground from the amp, then d/c the positive from the amp and just tape up the exposed positive wire with electrical tape. then continue doing w/e i need to do.

All I want to do is switch out the amps to test my new one. Then I am going to put the old one back in. I guess I should just unplug it to be safe

How is that any better or even faster than just disconnecting your battery ground and doing it right to begin with? Seems like an awful lot of extra work for nothing.

If I dont connect the battery should I connect the ground first when I re connect it or the Power wire

Ground comes off first and goes on last. The idea is to never touch your positive line while it is grounded due to the potential of a shock hazard. You can't get shocked touching your negative.
