Helping a Golf Newb/WTB: Golf Clubs

So, I've been wanting to play a couple of rounds of golf, and be ready if I'm invited to go out playing. So, I want to buy a set of clubs.

Unfortunately, there are as many clubs as subs; so, it's not the easiest thing to shop for.

Could someone tell me what to look for? I was thinking that I could get a set of used equipment for about 150, but now I realize that might be a little too low?

I am of average build and height (6'0"), so standard length clubs (I learned just today that there was a "standard" length.) should fit me, right?

I used to play golf with my dad before I was even a teenager, so I've hit a ball before, but when I walked into that pro-shop and the guy starts talking about graphite shafts and shit, I'm having trouble staying with him.

I am a fairly new golfer and just recently got a set of the nickent 3dx hybrid iron set with the #4 utility hybrid for 160 brand new off ebay. They are awesome and go rediculously far, not to mention it also includes a 10 iron. You can probably find them at your local golf shop for around 300 or so, because the 4dx set just came out, but i HIGHLY reccomend them for an amateur golfer.

look for some adams a2 idea hybrid irons you could probably get some cheap on ebay nice clubs. or look at your local pawn shop they have good deal at least the one i go to does. my buddy got a set of r7 draws for under 200.00 hell of of a deal.

Yeah. What the heck are those and why are they better? Please don't use lingo...man.

I thought all irons are pretty much the same?

What do I need to look for in woods?

10 iron is just another name for pitching wedge. You can just get a box set from sports authority for around 100$. no need to spend a lot on your first set. Learn the game first and then go and get fitted for some nicer clubs later on.

I have Taylor Made R7 Irons and an R7 driver. if you're trying to buy on a budget, you really dont need other woods. Just start with Irons and a Driver.

I would not get the R7 Draws because they are weighted differently and I think it's better to learn with a standard club than weighted to hit draws.

my 2 cents.

I bought my first set that where knock off copies of name brand. I was happy with the shafts and irons but the drivers kinda sucked the tiniest mis hit would break them. The driver i used after i broke the knock offs is a Macgregor i got for 49 bucks on sale. I bought them custom length because i need longer. Maybe go get fitted have the guy at the shop fit you right them look for knock offs or used

$150 is absurdly cheap especially if you are looking for a complete set.

There are a few sets out there that aren't name brand that you can get for the under $300 range for EVERYTHING, which is a darn good deal if you're just looking to start off. If you are looking for a little better quality and a name brand, we (I work for golf galaxy) have maxfli and adams complete sets that go for $399 which is still cheap considering all the stuff you get.

Based off your height standard length will be fine. If you are just starting off I wouldn't be too concerned with the shafts. Steel shafts are fine for 99% of golfers, especially beginners just getting the fundamentals down.

If you have any other questions let me know. I know more about golf clubs than I do stereos, which is really saying something. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Get some custom-fitted Pings ...
The right lie, angle, flex, etc. for your particular style are far more important than the "technology" ...
